Tom Little wins AAO Award

AAO Awards Outstanding International Contributions to Optometry

The American Academy of Optometry (AAO) posthumously awarded Tom Little a distinct award. He received the AAO-Essilor Award for Outstanding International Contributions to Optometry. The announcement came during the AAO 2011 Annual Meeting in Boston in October.

Tom Little was killed with 9 others after returning from providing eye care to a remote region of north-eastern Afghanistan. Prior to his death, his work reached many people, and he had been working in Afghanistan for over 30 years.

The AAO-Essilor Award for Outstanding International Contributions to Optometry recognizes an individual whose direct efforts and contributions have “resulted in unquestionably significant and extraordinary advances in optometry and eye care internationally.”
