A Call for Abstracts
National Mental Health Symposium will be organized around the theme “Achievements, Challenges and Priorities of Mental Health Services in Afghanistan”. This is an initiative by Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) of Afghanistan and mental health key implementing organizations (HealthNet TPO, Medica Afghanistan, PARSA, IAM, Tabish and IPSO) in Afghanistan aims to reflect mental health achievements and challenges, strengthen coordination, promote advocacy and research, prioritize needs, and discuss future plans and actions. The symposium is comprised of speakers sessions on latest cutting edge research designed to offer comprehensive global discussions that address current issues in mental health. The Symposium will be convened on 3rd and 4th of February 2019 in Kabul Afghanistan.
We encourage professionals from across the globe to submit abstracts on a topic of their choice relating to the symposium thematic areas outlined below:
- Epidemiology of mental health in Afghanistan, mental health research, contribution to policy and implementation.
- Treatment gaps in mental health and the impact of stigma, priorities of mental health including advocacy
- Mental health in emergency settings and situations
- Donors vision and perspective on mental health and funding
Submission:
- The deadline for submitting a detailed abstract (500-700 words) and full author details is 25 February 2019. Selection will be based on abstract review, and notification of acceptance/rejection of the abstracts will be sent via email.
- Abstracts should be submitted as a MS Word file by email.
- Abstracts should be no more than 700 words, single spaced in Times New Roman 11 point.
- Abstracts should be in English, and presenter (who need not be the author) must be fluent in English
- 15 minutes will be allowed for oral presentation of the study/paper and 15 minutes will be for question and answer session; the full written paper is not to be read.
- The author(s) should indicate his/her personal full contact details and submit his/her updated CV along with the abstract.
Selection:
Full abstracts (500-700 words) should be prepared following the template provided below. Each abstract will be blind reviewed by members of the Abstracts Review Committee for National Mental Health Symposium.
Abstract Template:
1. Purpose of this study/paper:
[What are the reason(s) for writing the paper (or the aims of the research)?]
2. Theme:
[How does it relate to the theme or thematic areas?]
- Design/methodology/approach
[How are the objectives achieved? Include the main method(s) used for the study. What is the approach to the topic, and what is the theoretical or subject scope of the paper?]
3. Findings:
[What was found in the course of the work? This will refer to analysis, discussion, or result.]
4. Research Limitations/implications (if applicable):
[If research is reported on in the paper, this section must be completed and should include suggestions for future research and any identified limitations in the research process.]
5. Practical implications (if applicable):
[What outcomes and implications for practice, applications and consequences are identified? All papers should have practical applications. What changes to practice might be made as a result of this research/paper?]
- What is original/value of paper?
[What is new in the paper? State the value of the paper and to whom.]
