Amidst Darkness, IAM strives for the Success of Afghanistan

How does IAM educate Afghanistan’s future leaders?

By teaching them how to communicate in world level interactions.

English is the first language of 400 million people, and according to British Council, in 2020 about two billion people in the world were studying English. English is not only the dominant language of internet, many films, TV shows, books, music, etc., but it is also the first language of education worldwide. The world is full of opportunity, and the key to having those opportunities is the ability to communicate in English. Knowing English can greatly help Afghans in building a bright and prosperous future for their nation.

Through International Assistance Mission’s (IAM) Silk Road English Center (SREC), 36 students have recently finished their English advance level and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL) classes. They can now apply to well-recognised scholarships all around the world, increase their knowledge, and serve their people. By knowing English, they can also better function in their work environment, and produce sustainable world class results for themselves and their communities. Moreover, graduated students can also take part in international business, such as exporting Afghan made products abroad.

SREC students finished their two-year long studying journeys in late 2020, and then started TOFEL preparation class, which they recently successfully passed. TOFEL class not only helped me in achieving my goals, but it also helped me to create a new vision for myself,” says *Haji Naim, one of the TOFEL class’s newly graduated students, and father of three children. “By attending this class, I found out about the numerous educational opportunities available for us.” It’s not just Haji Naim who is happy with the outcomes of this class, but also his classmates. Now he and his classmates can apply to scholarships and increase their skills by having access to updated materials and content in English. TOFEL graduated students are now potentially capable of receiving world-famous English language-based scholarships.

SREC also helped its students to flourish in their career. A high percentage of SREC’s students are now being employed by different organisations after reaching advanced classes. This means that SREC has played a big part in making them competent enough to find employment in the current job market. “After finishing SREC class, majority of my classmates got jobs in different organisations,” says *Haji Naim. “And with the help of English, some have started their own businesses.” English is also vital for producing desired results in work environment. Majority of international organization’s daily activities require English, and having proficient English skills often equates to success in work and life. “My expatriate colleagues always praise me for my English – thanks to SREC for helping me in increasing my English Skills,” he adds.

With 18 years of experience in teaching English, IAM is committed to keep helping Afghans through its different educational projects. Among dozens of its other capacity building programmes, IAM is also helping English learners to have chance of studying with an English native speaker. We believe that by increasing people’s capacity, they can make a just and peaceful future for themselves and their communities.
