IAMtech has been investigating the problem of people exceeding their email quotas repeatedly.<\/p>\n
Email quotas were a feature of our old mail server in Finland and were copied across to the new mail server when we moved service providers last year. \u00a0What we have learnt is that although it is possible to use email quotas with our new provider, unless you are using webmail to read your email you will never get any warning that you are approaching or have exceeded your permitted quota. \u00a0As a result, the first you usually know about exceeding your quota is when someone contacts you via another means and tells you that they can’t send you an email because you’ve exceeded your quota (see sample email error message below). \u00a0This is not a good system.<\/p>\n
Therefore in the first week of June this year we made the decision to eliminate quotas. \u00a0This was effective the next day.<\/p>\n
Please note though that in removing quotas we still do not encourage the storing of email on the server. \u00a0Email should be downloaded and stored on your computer. \u00a0Periodically we will review email storage on the server and will contact people who are storing messages on the server rather than their computers and ask them to correct the settings on their email program so that it removes the messages from the server after downloading them.<\/p>\n
