Ok, so the heading isn’t quite true. \u00a0IAM will no longer permit automatic email forwarding to addresses that do not end in @iam-afghanistan.org. \u00a0It is still possible to forward all email for one @iam-afghanistan.org address to another @iam-afghanistan.org address.<\/p>\n
If you would like to understand more about this change you can read http:\/\/it.iam-afghanistan.org\/why-does-google-mail-tell-me-im-sending-spam<\/a><\/p>\n If you were not using forwarding then the rest of this article is completely academic for you so you really don’t need to read it.<\/p>\n I was using forwarding before so what can I do now? \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n We\u00a0need to think about how you are planning to use your email. \u00a0Is there a reason that you want to read all your email in your gmail (or yahoo, or outlook.com\/hotmail.com) account? \u00a0For most people, it is helpful to separate work mail from their personal mail, therefore having their work email sent to their personal email account is not helpful.<\/p>\n If you use an email client to read your email (recommended) then you should setup your email client program to automatically download your iam-afghanistan.org email to your computer. \u00a0All modern email clients can read and send email for multiple email addresses.<\/p>\n We have a number of “how to” guides for different email clients in our instructions section. \u00a0If the mail client you want to use isn’t included then please place a request with our helpdesk for instructions if you are unable to work out how to do it yourself.<\/p>\n Setup Windows Live Mail with iam-afghanistan.org email<\/a><\/p>\n If you use web mail to read your email (recommended only when you cannot use your own computer) then you could use IAM’s webmail service to read your email directly on IAM’s mail server. \u00a0Go to http:\/\/webmail.iam-afghanistan.org<\/a> to use the webmail service. \u00a0Please do not do this from internet cafes – we don’t mind (but would recommend against it) if you want to risk your personal email account with whatever key capture software\/viruses etc are running on an internet cafe computer, but please don’t expose IAM’s email system to that risk.<\/p>\n If you must have your work email going to your personal mail account you can set up google mail\/yahoo\/outlook.com\/hotmail.com to fetch your mail from our server automatically for you. \u00a0You will also need to setup your personal mail account so that it is able to send mail with your iam-afghanistan.org email address (you may have already done this for how you have been using it in the past) as all IAM email should be sent from an iam-afghanistan.org email address.<\/p>\n Setup google mail fetcher<\/a><\/p>\n Setup Yahoo mail fetcher<\/a> (these are not our instructions – please refer to the ‘setup google mail fetcher’ instructions for IAM specific settings)<\/p>\n
