What We Do: Our Projects

The International Assistance Mission Afghanistan is involved in a number of projects, including Eye Care, with hospitals and training centres, Development, Education and Health. Read the basics here. If you would like a more in-depth look, check out the links to each project page, which include recent posts about what is going on within a project and further breakdowns of elements of each project.

Eye Care

NOOR – National Organisation for Ophthalmic Rehabilitation operates three referral hospitals in Kabul, Mazar, and Kandahar. NOOR began in 1966 and have built up their facilities to provide eye care to over 167,000 Afghans per year. Additionally, Vision Centres in remote parts of Afghanistan increase accessibility to basic eye care services

Education

All IAM projects seek to build Afghan capacity. Consequently, IAM’s education projects specifically aim to help Afghans improve their lives through language learning and skill development.

Development

Development is about tackling the poverty and injustice that prevent communities and individuals from realising their full potential. Accordingly, IAM’s development projects work with the poorest of poor towards the transformation of lives through partnership and empowerment.

Health

IAM’s strategic intention in health sector work is to take its strength of experience – particularly five decades of local institutional capacity building, and the professional skills and language proficiency of committed expatriates – to develop knowledge-based health professions.
