Education

We are passionate about providing high-quality education, equipping people in Afghanistan to reach their full potential.

IAM education projects currently focus on improving the accessibility and quality of education in villages, equipping future leaders with vital English skills, and advocating for peace in Afghanistan.

Female Teacher Education Project

We’re training young women from remote villages to be teachers. Our Female Teacher Education Project (FTEP) aims to empower and equip female teachers, so that they can go back to their home villages and improve the standard of education – particularly for girls, who are often the ones missing out on school. Find out more about FTEP here.

English as a foreign language

IAM’s Silk Road English Centre (SREC) exists to equip the next generation of leaders in Afghanistan with the English skills necessary to communicate on an international level. Having good English opens doors for the people of Afghanistan – giving them the opportunity to access higher education and increasing their employability. Discover more today.

Peacebuilding Project

We’re trying to contribute to long-lasting peace in Afghanistan by training people in peacebuilding skills. Our team is currently advocating for peacebuilding to become part of the national education curriculum of Afghan schools and universities. Take a closer look here.

What difference is our education work making?

Nearly 50% increase in girls’ school attendance!

In 2017, we sent our first 13 newly trained teachers back to their communities to teach in government-run schools. Across the villages where FTEP teachers now work, there was a 47% increase in the number of girls attending school in 2017. The presence of female teachers to educate these girls had a big impact. The teachers have been praised for their inclusive, participatory style of teaching.

In 2019-2020 we are training 45 more female teachers to bring opportunity and hope to the children (and particularly the girls) in their villages.
